Cyprus split into two time zones
2016-10-30
Northern Cyprus has followed Turkey's decision of not returning to winter time on 30 October, 2016. This sets the Turkey-controlled part of Cyprus one hour ahead of the rest of Cyprus when winter time is observed in the rest of Cyprus.
The Cabinet of Northern Cyprus decided in September that Northern Cyprus would copy Turkey and keep summer time all year. A conflicting statement from the UN later made it uncertain whether the time zone split would go ahead. Last night it was clear that Northern Cyprus had indeed followed Turkey's lead.
